This week we welcome Jak Barsby to the family. This mixtape has been a long time in the offering. From the initial request, Jak has given his all to this process. He has meticulously gone through every record box, shelf, hard drive and shoe box to grab the perfect tunes to give us that perfect insight into him as an artist and a man, and to give the listeners an incredible journey across many genres.
Jak and his fellow party starters 'Playground' have been tearing up Manchester for a good while now, which when you look at the calibre of personnel they have in their team, is not surprising. Not just techno, but a real passion for music in general. Perfect for Dusk Dubs.

Here are a few words from the man himself, and we are fortunate to have a track by track commentary from him also:
"First of all a big thanks to #DuskDubs for asking me to do this volume , it really is a pleasure to work with people so into the music and was great fun to dig through tunes I wouldn’t usually get a chance to play in a mix. I love the fact that all the tunes are played in full hence this very unusual and diverse selection of songs I have chosen.
As I said, I have gone for a complete eclectic mix of songs that have either inspired me or just given me great memories over the years and songs that I know I would rarely if ever get the chance to play in a club. It definitely is more euphoric than a lot of the dusk dubs series that I have listened to but I hope it works for you. I have started with the older tracks that mean a lot to me and then move into a more electronic feel.
I hope you have enjoyed listening to it as much as I have putting it together."

Fats Domino - Blueberry Hill
I chose this as its one of the oldest songs in my collection. It was released in 1940 and whenever it pops up it just puts me in a great place. I have played this randomly at after parties and it always gets a smile, for one reason or another.
Mamas & Papas - California Dreaming
This song is just incredible and timeless. There have been some great moments in the early hours after some epic parties where this has cropped up and it always seems to give people a bit of energy when we are all beginning to flag.
Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man
Son of a preacher man has always been one of my favourite tracks and a tune I could listen to on repeat and have done when trying to sleep after a heavy night many times back in the Derby days. Makes me smile every time I hear it and reminds me of some bloody brilliant nights.
Buffalo Springfield – For What It’s Worth
A feel good song that never gets old. Whenever I’m feeling a little bit down this always puts me back in a good place. I just love it.
Unknown - The Light
I stumbled across this and the words just get me thinking. I love how the percussion comes in and feel you could take this anywhere in a set. It would have been a perfect starting tune but as the mix continues I think I had to put the starting two tunes in before this.
Alle Farben - Intro
I really wanted to include an Alle Farben track as I have huge respect for him as a producer and DJ. A very talented DJ who’s only getting better day after day.
Air - La Femme D'Argent
A pure classic in my opinion and one of my favourite chill-out tunes. It’s from the album Moon Safari and if you don’t have this in your collection I urge you to give it a go. There are not many albums out there where every tune is amazing but I personally think this is one. This tune in particular is my favourite along with Kelly Watch the Stars. Give it a go :)
Psychonauts – Circles
Psychonauts was a band I had never heard of until recently and had no idea one of the duo later went on to form UNKLE with James Lavelle. Circles is by far the favourite track I have heard by them and a song that is regularly played in my house.
Plaid - Nafovanny
I feel this song just fits the Dusk Dubs sound and takes you on a journey. It’s relatively new and was released around August 2014. I don’t actually know a lot about the artist Plaid but this song is just incredible.
Moby - Lie Down In Darkness
I had to include a Moby track, it just felt right. I chose lie down in darkness as it's not one of his famous tracks. And maybe a few people haven’t heard it. I have been playing the Chris Liebing remix for a long time so it felt right to get the original in as I was trying to stay away from techno as much as I can ;)
Underworld - 8 Ball
A pure classic and my favourite track from the beach soundtrack which has been played as much as anything on my travels. Underworld as well are just genius hence the selection.
Recondite - Konter
I had to include Recondite, I have tried to stay away from what I would usually play in a club but I thought a cheeky 20 minutes of three of my favourite techno artists needed to be included. I just can’t play a set at the moment without one of his tracks appearing in it. Konter is from his latest album Iffy on Innervisions. His sound is distinct and completely unique. He was a breath of fresh air when he first appeared on the scene and 18 months down the line is still as exceptional as day one. He was a highlight of Awakenings festival for me last year and I look forward to seeing him again.
Barnt - All Worlds All Times
Another distinctive artist and personal favourite of mine is Barnt. Raw driving sounds that just make you want to dance. His build ups are fantastic, every tune has so many elements and this is one of my favourites.
It's Only (DJ Koze Remix) – Matthew Herbert
What a combination, Koze and Herbert, you expect big things before you even hear the track and Koze did not disappoint on the remix.
The next few tracks are a bit of a homage to Andrew Weatherall. Whether it’s his own productions, collaborations or tracks that I have heard him play.
Sudden Death of Stars – Supernovae
I heard this I think in his boiler room set but don’t hold me to that. It’s a fantastic piece of music from a psychedelic rock band from France. An inspiring piece of music I’m sure you will all agree.
Andrew Weatherall - Selective Walking
Selective Walking is one of my favourite Weatherall tracks. There are so many it really was hard to choose one but this won the battle. My musical idol that I hope to have a beer with one day.
The Sabres of Paradise - Wilmot
An experimental group formed in 1992, which included Andrew Weatherall, Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns. Wilmot stands out from their other tracks and just love where it takes me whenever I listen to it.
Dominik Eulberg & Gabriel Ananda - Friend of All That Lives
Two of my favourite artists on the lighter side of the techno world. Fantastic melodies that always take you on a journey with this song being one of the best.
Celestial Choir - Stand On the Word (Larry Levan Mix)
Another man that needs no introduction, a house legend who can fall in the same bracket as Frankie Knuckles. He’s in the dance music hall of fame and you can see why. I chose ‘Stand on the Word’ as I love the piano and choir vocals. It’s such a happy tune and a perfect song for me to end this mix with.
